Waking up at Fatumaca Technical College we were all looking forward to spending a relatively relaxing morning in the historical Bacau. Our first stop was at the shop of CTID, the girls school we had visited on our last trip to Bacau, to pick up a few locally produced ethical souvenirs.
Next on the group’s itinerary was a visit to the stunning Bacau beach. If anything the hype surrounding this beach is underrated. We stopped at a stunning beach beside a ruined stone Portuguese building; this was by far one of the most idyllic beaches we had seen so far.
We then braced ourselves for another troopie ride back to Dili. Although the troopie may not have been the most comfortable mode of transport the road between Bacau and Dili showcases the diversity of Timor’s environment, beaches and cliffs to swamps and agricultural land. By this stage East Timor Backpackers, which we arrived at later was beginning to feel more and more like home for all of us.
