Our Generation’s Challenge
Our Generation’s Challenge (OGC) is an annual field trip run by The Oaktree Foundation to bring 10 young volunteers to developing communities, to contribute towards the achievement of the UN Millennium Development Goals.
The trip is focused on MDG 8 – creating a global partnership for development. The trip seeks to forge partnerships with players at all levels of development; UN agencies, INGOs, Community organizations and Government departments – particularly focused on connecting with youth movements.
OGC began in 2006, when it traveled to Thailand and Cambodia. The program has since taken young leaders to Rwanda and Malawi in 2007, to India and Bangladesh in 2008 and East Timor and Papua New Guinea in 2009.
OGC 2010: Papua New Guinea and The Solomon Islands
By returning to Papua New Guinea (PNG) in 2010, OGC will build on partnerships forged in 2009 and deepen our understanding of the development work Oaktree supports. The trip will include:
• Visiting the recently reopened school in Yangis
• Trekking between different clans in the Yangis Community
• A two-day school activity program with students from the Yangis school
• Skill-sharing workshops with youth organization ‘The Voice’
The team will then head to The Solomon Islands, to forge new networks with youth movements government bodies and local and international NGOs. Through these interactions, the team will explore the impact of climate change, conflict and the RAMSI intervention upon development in The Solomons.
Applications for the 2010 program closed in March.
