In 2012, we’ve accepted 230 of the most passionate and energised young Australians into the Generate Program. They’re embarking on a 7-month program that will give them the tools that they need to make more than just small changes.

So what is Generate? The program is based on these 5 Key Principles:

  1. Development Literacy: Developing an appreciation of, and an ability to critically think about, the complex issues to do with global poverty
  2. The Toolkit: Undertaking a structured and experiential learning process where Generators learn the necessary skills to act for change
  3. Self Empowerment: Through exploring their motivations, capabilities and sense of place, Generators become aware of their capacity to create significant positive change
  4. Foundations of Oaktree: Understanding Oaktree’s vision and unique approach to leading a movement for change in Australia and beyond, and how they are a part of that process
  5. Community: Generators are part of a committed and supportive community of like-minded individuals

From March to October, Generators will join like-minded individuals each week to take action on poverty. They will work in the engine room of Australia’s fastest growing grassroots campaign, Live Below the Line. They will gain skills in project management and coordinate their own events or campaigns. They will grapple with some of the most challenging concepts facing the world today. We’re part of the movement to end global poverty. First piloted in 2008 with 30 Generators in Victoria, Generate has expanded to seven states and worked with over 550 young people. We’ve run over 100 events nation-wide, met with dozens of MPs and raised over $200,000 for education projects in the Asia-Pacific.
