Generation of Leaders Discovered (GOLD), is an award winning peer education program which, through the motivation of young people, is breaking down the poverty cycle and creating positive social change across South Africa, Botswana and Zambia. It is about equipping influential young people with the skills to impact their peers and improve their communities by acting as positive role models and raising awareness about the issues they face.
The Schools 4 Schools program supports GOLD in 19 South African Partner Schools, from the smallest rural schools of just over a hundred students to the largest ones with over a thousand. Many of the students in these schools confront their own daily challenges as a result of their communities being impacted by poverty. Leading community issues include HIV/AIDS, teen pregnancy, drug abuse, crime, absenteeism and child-headed families. As these issues continue to impact the lives of young people living in South Africa, the GOLD program is tireless in its ambition to make their impact.
